On Rotation - April

Here are a few tracks that have been on heavy rotation this month.

Current Obsession: DIIV - Under The Sun

 To be free, be awake

DIIV (pronounced "dive") have released a new album titled "Is the Is Are", and the whole thing is quite good, although some of the guitar gets a bit repetitive. This song is by far my favourite from the album. Have a listen and let it transport you to simpler times and the warm days of summer.

Album Obsession: HEALTH - Death Magic

Been really into this album by HEALTH. The combination of electronics and guitars works so well here and also the lead singer's voice reminds me a bit of Bombay Bicycle Club mixed with Silversun Pickups. The entire album is excellent and full of awesome guitar shredding, powerful drum beats and catchy dance-worthy choruses. 

 

Artist Obsession: Kaleo

All I can say is that these guys are gonna be huge. Is there something in the water in Iceland that makes great musicians or what?

Current Obsession: Josh Ritter - Getting Ready to Get Down

Jesus hates your high school dances. 

 If you've had a bad day or you're feeling a little down just give this little gem from Josh Ritter a listen. This song is so fun and uplifting and the video is probably one of best I've seen in a while....I'm currently trying to learn all the lyrics so I can sing along in the car. 

Current Obsession: Lady Lamb - Billions of Eyes

I just want to fall in a pile of warm laundry.

Love love love the lyrics of this song. It's unique, catchy, infectious, and I can't stop listening to it. 

Frazey Ford - Live at McDougall's Church in Edmonton

I can't think of a better way to spend Valentines day than seeing one of my favourite Canadian artists live in a beautiful church with my wonderful boyfriend next to me. I have been pretty obsessed with Frazey Ford lately. When I first her song "Done" I put it on repeat for about 3 days. Her album Indian Ocean, recorded in Memphis with Al Green's band, is absolutely stunning and has been on heavy rotation over these last months. 

Frazey's voice is simply incredible - filled with emotion and soul. She played a lot from Indian Ocean including "You got religion" which is about 'Nature and Aretha Franklin' and is quickly becoming my next obsession. :) When she put down her guitar to sing "Bird of Paradise" she began dancing and moving her arms to the music in the most beautiful way with her sequined butterfly top sparkling in the spotlight. She seemed like an exotic bird herself and I felt lucky to be witnessing her singing for us mere humans. She played all my favourites from her first album, Obadiah, such as "Blue Streak Mama" and "Like you better". She even covered some Bob Dylan and D'Angelo and played an awesome funk song from her days in a funk band. I love her music so much I could have listened to her sing for hours. The last song she played was "Indian Ocean" and it brought tears to my eyes because it was all just too beautiful and I was sad that it had to end.
